Álvaro Canalejo-Molero

I am a political scientist from Córdoba, Spain, studying the determinants of political attitudes and behavior. I currently work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP-CSIC) in Madrid, within the ERC-funded project CONSENT. My research has been published in the European Journal of Political Research, Research & Politics, and the European Political Science Review.

Before joining IPP-CSIC, I held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Lucerne, and as a Visiting Researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Since 2023, I hold a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute. I am also a member of the Digital Society Initiative at the University of Zurich.

My research spans three main strands. The first is how election outcomes shape democratic attitudes and behavior, with a particular focus on the conditions weakening losers’ consent to electoral defeat. The second are the consequences of digital technological change for political conflict. Finally, I have a keen interest in the interplay of multiple identities for political identification and representation.
