Álvaro Canalejo-Molero

I am a political scientist from Córdoba, Spain, studying the drivers of political attitudes and behavior. I currently work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Political Behaviour and Communication of the University of Lucerne, and at the SNSF-funded project DIGIPOL. My research has been published in the European Journal of Political Research, Research & Politics, and the European Political Science Review.

Before joining the University of Lucerne, I completed a PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute in 2023. I have also held visiting positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and I am a member of the Digital Society Initiative at the University of Zurich.

My research spans three main strands. The first is how election outcomes shape democratic attitudes and behavior, with a particular focus on the conditions weakening losers’ consent to electoral defeat. Second, with DIGIPOL, I have explored the potential for political conflict of digital technological change. Finally, I have a keen interest in identities and representation, with a focus on inter-regional conflict and the formation of devolution preferences.
